Ah, yes, Allisa the cellist with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony! Good work, Ellen! Why didn’t I remember that? Allisa, your cover of “Song C” was one of my favorites from “Shadow Hands.” What do you have in the works for “Shadow Hands-Part Deux” — “Song H,” perhaps?
molomolomolo: Golf’s more my game, too. If you’re ever in the Chattanooga area, let me know. We could check out the Bear Trace at Harrison Bay — one of the Nicklaus-designed courses in Tennessee. David, surely you play? All we need is one more, and we could have a FOB-foursome!
MVaF: Unfortunately, I can’t make Spartanburg. That Thursday just won’t work for me. 😥 Plus, I’ve got tickets to see the Lovell Sisters that Friday (LovellSisters.com).

Miss VA Former: Cas Walker was quite the entrepreneur and showman!
Unfortunately, I won’t be in attendance in Spartanburg. I threw my back out bowling at the Lucky Strike in Louisvegas, so the pillow fight is definitely out as well!Allisa: My research has turned up your last name — ! — but you’ve given me a migraine trying to determine where your photo may be hidden… any more clues?

We’re trying to figure out your “handle” — as in “treah” = Jackie. The only Pen Pics that seem to fit you would be Elyce or Linda. I thought you were Linda. What’s “in the shadows” mean, then?

Allisa, I see your “hills of the Palouse” and raise you the Walking Horse farms in the rolling pastureland of Middle Tennessee.
Not only did I get the fields and horse farms of Kentucky on my drive to Louisville this weekend, but I also ventured off the interstate to Bell Buckle, Tenn., a Mayberry-esque town if ever there was one! Wildflowers and corn-stalk decorations dotted the landscape under clear blue skies, and the scent of wood smoke filled the air.
Driving down those country roads to a soundtrack provided by Bruce was a perfect fall road trip — a great excuse to look out any window.

MoloMoloMolo, you missed a massive “B3” party — we filled the Lucky Strike, and I’m thinking about printing-up some T-shirts so everyone in attendance will have a keepsake memento! The Lucky Strike — and 4th Street Live in general — has more giant, flat-screen TVs than NASA; it was quite the place. We missed David and Miss Virginia Former, but a great time was had by all. MMM, you guys missed your chance to bowl with me, “someone in the know” (thanks to Si and everyone who contributes to this site). I do really enjoy that “Having a Ball in the Low Country” song. If anybody wants to e-mail me an mp3 of it, feel welcome.
Lola Pelusa is a beautiful person in every way, and the best serving wench / ball handler in the tri-state region!
She also learned I’m a pathological liar, which was funny! Hi, Lola! Hope the rest of your solo-show swing is safe and fun! Lola sat near Big Rumble at the “James” Brown Theatre, and it was great to get to shake his hand during the intermission. Definitely a famous guy among Bruuuce circles. I loitered around after the show to try to snag an autograph on my (FREE!) boxed set, but unlike the Merriman party, I didn’t have backstage passes — so I retreated back to 4th Street.
The Korg synthesizer thing was funny and cause for Bruce to mischievously rake Wayne Pooley over the coals. It was interesting to see Bruce switch from the standard Mandolin Rain arrangement into the minor-key version in midstep. Very educational. By the way, Bruce said February for the R&B (Ricky & Bruce) record, which is old news by now, I guess. Si: here’s my set list, erroneous as it may be:
Set I
Spider Fingers>Questions & Answers (Ornette Coleman)>Spider Fingers, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Song C, Sad Moon, Witchy Woman tease, End of the Innocence>Song H>Danny Boy>End of the Innocence, Darlin’ Cory>Night on the Town, In the Low Country, Donald Trump song, (classical)>The Way It Is.
Set II
Sticks & Stones, Country Doctor, Gonna Be Some Changes Made, Dreamland, Dreaded Spoon, The Road Not Taken>On the Old Kentucky Shore, White Wheeled Limousine>Long Black Veil, Valley Road>Happy Trails, Rainbow’s Cadillac.

David, we’re thinking of you.
Louisville crew, have a safe trip. I’ll be at the Lucky Strike by about 4:30… ask for the Hornsby party.
Can’t hardly wait. Lola, you can be my ball handler/serving wench any time!

ParticipantDavid,
God bless and good luck with everything. I’ve been through similar experiences, so although I can’t say I know how you feel, I can definitely relate. If we can do anything, let us know.

ParticipantBowling Before Bruce
David, that should be money in the bank. I was once a great bowler, but as the board’s only septuagenarian, I’ve lost my touch a bit.
Anybody want to confirm their attendance at the first annual “B3” party — Bowling Before Bruce? Anybody want to be added to the list? Anybody? Anybody? … Bueller?
And in case you don’t want to shout “Bruuuce!!!” throughout the Lucky Strike, my bio is now posted on “Pen Pics,” so everybody can get an idea of what I look like before the meet-up!

Sounds like it’s going to be “Bowling Before Bruce” at the Lucky Strike at 4th Avenue Live, which is only a couple blocks away from the Brown Theatre. I’ll be there at about 4:30 p.m. Just holler “BRUUUCE!!!” and I’ll answer. We can eat/drink/bowl to our hearts’ content.
So far, I think we have five-and-a-half probable attendees:
— Victor
— Lola Pelusa
— Miss Virginia Former, the bowling queen
— MoloMoloMolo
and
— MMM’s better half with baby-on-boardEven if MMM’s wife sits out the bowling, we’ve got two good bowling teams if everybody’s interested.
Of course, the more the merrier; anybody else want to meet us at the Lucky Strike before the Louisville show?
Maybe we can kidnap Bruce and take him to the Maker’s Mark for post-show musings …Victor

OK, guys and gals,
I called Lucky Strike (502-560-1400) at 4th Street Live, and they said we should be able to get a table and/or lanes on any Sunday evening without a reservation. They’re open from 11 a.m. until midnight and have 14 lanes, so I’m ready for that if anyone else is. I can even sometimes break 100 in bowling, but I don’t want to brag.
And I’m 76 years old!
I also called the Maker’s Mark (502-568-9009). They’re open from about 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. on Sundays — and they take reservations — so I went ahead and reserved a table for 8. I can cancel if we need to.
So who’s in? And which place would you rather hit before the show: Lucky Strike or Maker’s Mark? I can be at either place by about 4:30 p.m. — that will give us 2 good hours before the show starts.
Here’s a nice review of 4th Street Live: http://www.iglou.com/restaurants/4sl.shtml . For directions, check http://www.4thstlive.com . As brother Day would say, “Let’s get fired up! I’m a tellin’ ya!!!”

Thanks for the excellent information, MoloMoloMolo!
You and yours will have a great time, I’m sure. I’ll look more into 4th Street Live! as soon as I have a bit more time, in the next day or so.
The Lucky Strike sounds interesting. Who’s up for “Bowling Before Bruce”? — a little “B-3” for all the BIBs and SIBs!
Hear that, David? Tickets can be had at the door… After much thought, I’ve changed my mind, and I’ll take you up on your bet. The Vols will win regardless.

Thank you, Mr. David Day, an esteemed Road Scholar, my publicity manager and personal fluffer!
David, you’d better plan on making that trip to Louisville, because there are going to be a lot of disappointed Dawgs in Athens after the Vols come in and clean house. Following a morning of mourning, you’ll need the pick-me-up of a solo Bruce show for sure.
It will take me about 5 hours to get to Louisville from here, though, so it’s no short stretch. But if Lola’s willing to make the journey, you should too.
Lola, you probably know as much about Louisville as I do. It was actually David who made arrangements for our meet-up in Knoxville earlier this year. I’ll call the venue to see if there’s any place they’d recommend as a watering hole. Can anyone in the Louisville area recommend a place?
So all you SIBs and BIBs out there can remain apprised of the situation here over the next two weeks…

Personally, I always thought he said “Mr. P.E. in the corner” — as in Mr. Phys. Ed. … referring to the “jock,” one of the stereotypical “cliques” of high school life.
But I guess it wasn’t P.E. after all, huh? Oh, well. “Defensive End” serves the same purpose, I suppose.
Anybody going to be at the Louisville solo show on Oct. 8?
