For the life of me, I don’t understand why some of you Yankees can’t appreciate a good ol’ Appalachian/folk/bluegrass tune!?!? :? I thought “I Truly Understand” was fantastic when I heard it last year in Boulder! :)

Fascinating! I’ve never seen one before! Love the graphic design… I’d buy something similar on a T-shirt! :D

Several are available from Munck … “Nobody There But Me,” for example, comes from the August 2005 Chattanooga show. I think “The Way It Is” is from the 2002 Copenhagen show, etc… :)

From Saturday’s (April 25) premiere at Tribeca:

    http://www.tribecafilm.com/festival/new … _Work.html

“(Spike) Lee gave shout outs to his award-winning crew—cinematographer Matthew Libatique, editor Barry Alexander Brown and composer Bruce Hornsby. The film is as cinematically skilled as any of Lee’s films. With the use of thirty cameras, tightly crafted editing, and a fantastic soundtrack, the viewer gets a front-row seat and backstage pass. One has never experienced a game from so many (new) angles.

After the introduction, Lee grabbed an empty seat in the middle of the theater next to Hornsby, laughing and making comments throughout the screening. He just happened to sitting in the row in front of me, and he was clearly enjoying the game all over again.”

Wow! I think Dana got the scoop–directly from Rockford, Ill., of all places! The new album is called “Levitate.” :)

I followed the above link and found another link to (illegally, I presume) download this soundtrack. It was no small feat for me, since I am no computer expert. What I downloaded, however, included only Song C, Mandolin Rain, Shadow Hand, and Boo Radley from Bruce. And they all seemed to be the classic versions (I understood Mandolin Rain would be a new solo, minor-key version?) Also–the “Is-You-Is” song I got is the Dinah Washington version.

So, would this be some sort of temp soundtrack that the producers have put together???

I’d love the hear “Invisible” too — this may be a dumb question…, but is this a new composition, like “Levitate” for the Kobe Bryant project?

I so hope this film gets some form of wide release–personally, I’ve always liked Robin Williams (some of his recent stuff has been sub-par), and Bobcat Goldthwait is a hoot. I’m getting good vibes and reading great things about the movie… and I’d love to hear the complete soundtrack (and actually purchase it!) ;)

Difficult to get an idea of the scope of it, but a nice find nevertheless, Lola! Really looking forward to hearing Bruce’s first foray into scoring!!!

Re: VIDEO CLIPS FROM WORLDS GREATEST DAD

“Heavy metal is the f@ggiest of all the f@g music” … this movie looks like a blast to me.

I’ve read a lot of positive reviews. Does anyone know if any distribution company has had the guts to pick it up yet?

I’d love to see it in a theater as well as on video!

    Hey David Day!

    Hope you’re doing well!

My favorite from the Knoxville show was my “Place Under the Sun” request that really shook up the crowd! :) Too bad I won’t be able to make all the great meet-ups at those shows already scheduled in the South this year! :( … Still waiting to hear when Bruce and Co. will swing through the Rockies…

😮 LOL, you ol’ SCKBSTD! :D

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar! 😆 Happy April 1!

My own imaginary friend’s name was Jimmy … until one night, when I asked my parents for some cookies — and they told me I had to share with him. It was then, alas, that I had to inform them of Jimmy’s untimely demise. 😥

I’d be lying, though, if I said this interpretation of the song hadn’t crossed my sick mind! 👿
And Shadow Hands IS on the “World’s Greatest Dad” soundtrack, which would be ironic, considering the manner of death of one of the characters!

Just to belatedly follow Dana’s lead for those who don’t follow the link:

Bruce’s work is featured throughout the two-hour film, which will make its world premiere Saturday, April 25, at the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival and on ESPN/ESPNHD Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, so, according to several internet sources:

Spike Lee’s new documentary — “Kobe Doin’ Work” — on Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant, last year’s NBA Most Valuable Player, will be the gala premiere of the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival on April 25.

“Kobe Doin’ Work” will then be televised Saturday, May 16, at 7:30 PM on ESPN.
The documentary has the distinction of featuring the first film score by Bruce Hornsby, who also wrote and performed the original song “Levitate.”

    :)

Nor have I been able to parlay my Bruce fandom into Deadheadedness. Lord knows I’ve tried to educate myself. I bought one of those live double-CDs (from D.C. or Philly or somewhere) that featured Bruce and came highly recommended (from one of the “good years”).

But I just can’t seem to access it. I think I finally sold that CD; and when I get to They Love Each Other on the Intersections DVD, I usually skip it. Even though I love the Dead lyrics and Jerry’s guitar. And I LOVE to hear Bruce do HIS take on their songs. For me, Bruce is the Dead … perfected. I’ve said it before: I’d like to hear Bruce do a full album of Dead material.

But the Grateful Dead themselves? Maybe I need to smoke more weed. 😈 😯 😈 😮

It’s about time you posted the Rocky Mountain stretch of the Oh-Nine tour… don’t hold back on me! :)

Dave, I believe Bruce generally gives his brother John credit for the (awesome) lyrics, though the liner notes say they co-wrote that and every other song on the first record — except for The Way It Is and Every Little Kiss, for which Bruce received solo credit.

Mary, even though I live in Colorado now, I can’t help that I’m in love with NeNe from real Housewives Atlanta. Maybe David Day can introduce me to her sometime. :)

    Goon,

You beat me to this topic by a minute! So I deleted my redundant thread. Here’s my two cents, posted earlier:

I thought the guy kind of butchered it, but the judges seemed impressed. The odd thing is, the guy plays keyboards, but he didn’t play; he just sang it.

Yeah, I watch Idol sometimes. When Real Housewives is a repeat. 😳

Don’t give me a hard time about, OK? :P

I appreciate your report, too, Jim. I’m amazed Bruce is able to get on stage and perform at all so soon after the passing of R.S. But I suppose the show must go on, and it’s a good tribute to his too-short life.

My heart sank in disbelief when I opened Si’s Web site. We are so lucky for each day we are given; this loss reminds me to take advantage of what time we have.

When I finally made it to my first Bruce show in 2005 — almost 20 years after I first became a fan — I remember hoping R.S. would be able to come down to Chattanooga to join the show. Sure enough, my wish came true, and there was R.S. playing a duet with Bruce during one of the opening numbers. I highly recommend that 8/18/05 show to anyone who wants to hear more of the work of R.S.

I hung around the back exit for an hour or two after the show to try to meet Bruce and the band. I got R.S.’s autograph that night, too. When I approached him, he seemed almost surprised that I asked for his signature.

He added so much to my enjoyment of that concert. We can only imagine how he would have continued to mature musically. I look forward to hearing his contributions to the new Bruce album this year.

    Lovely Lola,

I think the Sundance site (thanks for the link) says the first showing is Jan. 19 or something. Unfortunately, I doubt we’ll be able to make it this year (unless, possibly, if someone is coming through the Springs and wants to give us a lift to Utah and share costs!). Allisa? Monica???

But — yeah — I’d definitely advise AGAINST camping at this time of year!!! 😯

    Be good,

Thanks for taking the time to do what you do!
