Chris first developed as a musician playing in church, with gospel shaping his early instincts, while jazz became a profound influence through artists such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane. He discovered both through his father’s record collection.
He later graduated from Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and studied at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he began his career with Mint Condition.
Since then, he has worked with artists including Adele, D’Angelo, Janet Jackson, Lionel Richie and Dolly Parton, and contributed to major albums such as Adele’s 21 and Maxwell’s BLACKsummers’night.
He is the leader of the Drumhedz, a band rooted in gospel, soul, funk, jazz and hip-hop, and a frequent collaborator of bassist Pino Palladino, who also appears on Indigo Park.
