Craig Klein

Craig KleinCraig Klein is a New Orleans-born trombonist whose career spans more than four decades and is deeply rooted in the city’s musical traditions, with a style shaped by brass band tradition, jazz and gospel.

A lifelong champion of the New Orleans sound, Craig began playing professionally in the French Quarter and went on to become a founding member of both the Storyville Stompers and the Grammy Award-winning New Orleans Nightcrawlers, whose 2020 album Atmosphere won Best Regional Roots Album.

From 1990 to 2006 he toured and recorded extensively with Harry Connick Jr., while also building a résumé including work with Bonerama, Preservation Hall, the Palm Court Jazz Band, the New Orleans Jazz Vipers, Dr John, Allen Toussaint, the Neville Brothers, Tori Amos, and REM.

He has played on more than 150 recordings and has released his own solo work, including New Orleans Trombonisms and Talkative Horns, a tribute to his friend and fellow trombonist Lucien Barbarin.
