Matt is a California native who moved to New Orleans in 1992, known for his work across a variety of instruments including tuba, sousaphone, upright and electric bass.
His style moves across jazz, funk, rock, reggae, Dixieland, Latin and avant-garde music. Over the years he has performed and recorded with a range of artists including Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Dr John, Ani DiFranco, Florence and the Machine, Better Than Ezra and Bruce Hornsby
Matt is a co-founder of both the New Orleans Nightcrawlers and the Tin Men, and has released acclaimed solo projects including Sunflower City and Bayou Road Suite,. Both earned recognition for his work as an arranger and composer for ensembles such as the Boston Pops, as well as for film, television and theatre, including HBO’s Treme and Nine Lives – the Musical.
