Bruce Hornsby’s shows in the tents in New England (Hyannis and Cohasset) have always gone down a storm, and this one was no different. This one is heavy on the Grateful Dead content.
Right after the first song, Bruce invites set suggestions from the audience, and later references the “unbelievable” number of requests.
Debbie Henry’s vocals and John D’earth’s trumpet are a feature throughout, but maybe the highlight is Bobby Read’s sax, especially in the second set. He features really strongly on White-Wheeled Limousine, Scarlet Begonias, Tango King and Iko Iko in particular.
Talk of the Town into He’s Gone aren’t two songs that we’d typically put together, but they make for a great track. We also have a disco intro into The Changes, and a seamless, breakneck Rainbow’s Cadillac into What a Time into Spider Fingers.
A lot of Dead content, as we’ve said, and J.T. Thomas is tremendous on Jack Straw.
